How Did We Get Started In This Journey?

 

Our journey began in late 2000, when I attended HVAC school and started to work for a small HVAC company in Richardson.  I was able to learn quickly due to the fact the owner had me working on all types of equipment and installing full systems by myself pretty much immediately. 

After 2 years, I decided to move on and worked for a bigger company also in the Richardson area, and learned more about running a business, ordering parts and equipment, invoicing and warranty procedures.  In 2006 I took the state contractor’s test and passed it the first time with a score of 92.  Soon after I bought my first truck and founded Big Bear A/C & Heating, working mainly in the Frisco, Little Elm and Prosper area.  What started as a one-man operation grew to 10 employees, including 3 techs and an install team. 

In 2019 we were approached by an investment firm and after going through the “due diligence” process, they offered to purchase Big Bear A/C’s assets.  At this time, we had over 300 reviews, 5 stars rating, and 7000 customers.  We saw this as an opportunity for our employees to be a part of something bigger, which would help them advance in the future and have a better opportunity to grow.  The sale was finalized in March 2020, I decided to stay with the new owners to help run the business. 

After a year of working for them, the decision was made for me to move on.  I was able to renegotiate my noncompete agreement in order to take care of my family. 

We have gone back to basics with The Chill Dude A/C in the sense that we will focus on taking care of our employees, our customers and our families.  We operated the previous business with a very simple business model:

  1. Take care of our employees – they will in turn take care of our customers and make sure everything is done properly.
  2. Never lie or try to upsell anything – on the contrary, we love to give second opinions to verify what other companies have told homeowners.
  3. Stand behind the work performed – we are not perfect; things will sometimes happen. What we do as a company to take care of the problem will let the homeowner know we are the right choice.
  4. Be on time – our customers’ time is as important to us as it is to them.
  5. Educate the customer – make sure the homeowner understands the problem, choices and recommendations with no doubts.
  6. Train technicians and installers – we will not send “green” or untrained techs/installers to a customer’s house.
  7. Take care of the customer’s house and all property – We will ask permission to access the equipment and make sure we leave the work area cleaner than we found it.

At The Chill Dude our trained HVAC repair technicians are paid a salary — so they are only focused on doing the right thing and earning your trust as a customer for life.

NO COMMISSIONS

Other companies pay their employees extra bonuses when they recommend replacing a system, so unfortunately it isn’t always needed. Our first promise to you is that we will make sure your system actually needs replacing, and if it doesn’t, we’ll recommend the appropriate repair.

HONEST EXPERIENCE AND ADVICE

Troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems is often challenging. The obvious issue is often not the only issue and without proper HVAC experience from your service company you may find yourself calling for service over and over again. We take pride in the relationships we build with our customers and getting the right repair done right the first time.
